When you see signs that the paint on your home is starting to have a weathered, feathery or ribbed-like appearance, or if you see any cracking or peeling at all, even a small amount, it is time to call in a professional.

When properly primed and then coated with a professional grade of exterior paint, the wood around the exterior of your home is virtually sealed from exterior moisture and can last a very long time when properly cared for and maintained.

Other than damage from a major storm or termites, the most expensive damage that can occur to the wood exterior of your home, is the water damage.  Over time, peeling paint no longer protects the exterior wood from moisture.

The wood all around your home is exposed to the harsh elements of the weather outside, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Over time, and it can be a relatively short period of time depending on the condition of the existing paint, these elements take their toll on the paint that covers and protects the wood. The paint will eventually dry, crack and peel, leaving the bare wood underneath exposed to the elements.

When this happens, if left untreated, the exposed wood first becomes saturated with moisture and expands like a sponge with every rain, then drys out and shrinks in the hot sun. It is only a matter of time before the resultant wood-rot has literally destroyed the affected wood of your home.

This can be especially true with the blazing hot sun and almost daily showers we have in Florida!

The cost of replacing all that wood and then having it painted, along with the rest of the house, can be a very expensive proposition indeed. The key to hopefully avoiding this situation altogether, is to maintain the integrity of the paints on the exterior of your home by painting smarter, which means painting and repainting wherever and whenever necessary to prevent damage.
